Evangelism Day Day 55 continues!!!! Had an amazing African dance class with my bible study girls and some other recruits. Nice hot shower, so relaxed and everyone bails on me. What?!?! No Veggie Galaxy?!?! Screw it, I say, I'm gonna hit that even if I'm alone. So I walk and I'm NOT about to sit at the counter alone. So she gives me a booth and in I go. I'm cool with a dinner date reservation with Jesus! Then 2 minutes later, this guy walks in and he gets seated at the counter. He's pretty cute, and I'm feeling bold. So I say excuse me, like 5 times, and he can't hear me. The waitress is kind enough to come over and get his attention for me. He turns around and I invite him to sit with me! Hmm. He IS cute! No, this is not a How I Met My Husband story, but he IS Italian and SUPER INTELLIGENT! Post doc at Harvard studying the most fascinating things (something about medical ethics my BU girlfriends will be delighted to hear). We talked about Jesus, Buddhism, vegetarianism, beliefs systems, philosophy, personal stories, being a missionary in Boston, Hawaii, India! It was like the coolest experience ever! I love how God just throws us the coolest surprises and curveballs. You're not kidding Lord, life with you is the most crazy awesome exciting adventure ever. If your life is boring, you are CLEARLY NOT A CHRISTIAN. And if you are a follower of Christ and your life IS boring, you need to get out there and do some evangelism. Cuz this place hopping. As Jesus Himself said, the fields are ripe for the harvest!!!! And the sweetest thing ever, he says to me as we're saying goodbyes, I really needed someone to talk to tonight! And I gave him a hug and a huge smile and said, God knows and wants to give you the desires of your heart!!!!
It gets even better. I jump on the train and this woman says in a loud voice, is this train going to MGH? Or maybe she asked if it was going to Quincy and the guy says no, this is an Ashmont train. And she tells him that she got beat up. She lifts her face and she's got these crazy shiners on her eyes. Oh my gosh, my heart just dropped and hit the floor. I rushed over to her and asked her if I could pray with her, and she says of course. What happened I ask? She says that two guys beat her up because she wouldn't have sex with them. It was so awful. I prayed with her, but she prays with me first! She clearly loves Jesus and I can't believe what I'm hearing. She says she's a minister and a doctor, and I tell her I'm a missionary, and I pray. Her breath reeks of alcohol and all I can see is such pain in her eyes. Wow I'm so happy that I get to pray with her, she says she was desperate for prayer. She tells me that she was raped when she was a little girl by her grandfather. I tell her that that was sick and evil and that she can give that pain and shame and hurt to Jesus. She starts crying as she is holding my hands and I'm laying my hands for healing on her bruises, not just for her black eyes, but for the darkness and pain and brokenness in her heart. I tell her that it wasn't her fault and she tells me that her grandfather murdered her mother and she had to tell her dad. She tells me that she's crying tears of joy as I keep praying for her heart, healing and deliverance. I truly feel like a million dollars as I hug her goodbye and invite her to Aletheia, where I pray she will be welcomed with open arms. Truly I am blessed to be God's servant. Her words ring in my ears, "I'm unworthy to be saved" and I whisper, we're ALL unworthy. But thank God for Jesus that He saves us anyway. Please lift up P in your prayers, that not only would she be delivered from alcoholism, but from the deep wounds that have scarred her and lead her to drink. #savedbygrace
